After last month’s focus on full stack dev across kubernetes, Node-RED and IoT, this month we’ll focus on data science, fintech and devops. We’ll have the usual mix of demos and dev, refreshments and giveaways. Hope to see you on 21/11 at the The Bourbon Bar, The Odeon’s plush bar experience 🙂
Doors open at 6pm and we’ll get started at 6:30pm sharp

PixieDust: Magic for Jupyter Python Notebooks
PixieDust is an open source Python helper library for Jupyter Notebooks that improves the user experience of loading and visualizing data in charts and dashboard. In this session, Margriet Groenendijk, IBM developer advocate, will walk you through what you can do with PixieDust, PixieApps and the new PixieGateway. Learn how to build a weather forecast dashboard in a notebook as a PixieApp and share it with the world through the PixieGateway.
Margriet is a Data Scientist and Developer Advocate for the IBM Watson Data Platform. She has a background in climate research where she explored large observational datasets and the output of global scale weather and climate models. Now she uses this knowledge to create visualisations and models from diverse data sets using cloud databases, data warehouses, Machine Learning, Spark, and Python notebooks
Prototyping an investment portfolio advisor on IBM Cloud
Exploiting IBM Cloud fintech services for portfolio management and simulation, Ross Cruickshank, IBM developer advocate, takes a “developer pattern” for building an investment portfolio advisor, and extends it to include funds management with banking APIs. The application makes use of the IBM Cloud data services for SQL and noSQL, and the Watson Conversation Service to incorporate chatbot function – all wrapped up in NodeRED.
Ross is a Systems Engineer and Developer Advocate from the Digital Ecosystems Group. He works with startups and enterprises to develop and demonstrate rapid prototypes around platform as a service, Watson cognitive services and IoT. Ask him about building MVP services with Node-RED.
Ed Shee gives an update on the Open Toolchain project and gives a tour of the IBM Cloud implementation in DevOps Services.
Ed works as a Developer Advocate on IBM’s cloud development platform. His role includes everything from mentoring at hackathons to helping enterprises move to microservices architectures on Cloud.
