Telstra Joins Cloud Foundry Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA–(Marketwired – Sep 16, 2015) -Cloud Foundry Foundation , home of the leading open source cloud native application platform, today announced that Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications and information services company, is joining the independent open source organization. The Cloud Foundry platform and Telstra’s work with the Foundation will support software development in Telstra’s Gurrowa Innovation Lab, the centerpiece of the company’s technology and research capabilities and its next step in building a broader innovation network.

Recently launched in Melbourne, Gurrowa is an open innovation environment where Telstra, its enterprise customers, partners, incubators, vendors, research institutes and other members of Telstra’s innovation network can connect and collaborate on cutting-edge technology all under one roof.

“Using the Cloud Foundry platform and actively working with the Cloud Foundry community underpins the concept of continuous innovation that we want to foster in Gurrowa,” Telstra Chief Technology Officer Vish Nandlall said. “Cloud Foundry gives us the speed and portability we need to reduce our time to development and time to market for game changing products and services worldwide.”

Telstra’s participation in the Cloud Foundry Foundation adds to a growing list of global telecommunications leaders who are turning to Cloud Foundry to transform the way they do business. Cloud Foundry is a critical part of (Cloud Foundry member) CenturyLink’s application developer services offering and is at the heart of the public cloud service that (Cloud Foundry member) Huawei plans to launch later this year. Ericsson, NTT, Swisscom and Verizon are also active members of the Foundation and the platform is used by Orange, AT&T and others.

“Telstra is a leader among a wave of telecommunications companies who are driving their customers toward continuous innovation,” Cloud Foundry CEO Sam Ramji said. “Their contributions to the Foundation will strengthen the future of open source cloud native applications and help build the Cloud Foundry community in Asia Pacific. More broadly, Vish Nandlall’s leadership will progress the telecommunications industry’s strategy for an interoperable cloud application platform.”

Telstra and other members are joining Cloud Foundry Foundation at Cloud Foundry Summit Europe November 2-3, in Berlin and the Cloud Foundry Summit Asia Pacific December 2-3 in Shanghai. Hundreds of application developers, IT operations experts, technical managers, business leaders, service providers and project contributors are gathered in these independent forums to accelerate and advance the Cloud Foundry open source project.
