CVE-2020-5399: CredHub does not properly enable TLS for MySQL database connections

Description

Cloud Foundry CredHub, versions prior to 2.5.10, connects to a MySQL database without TLS even when configured to use TLS. A malicious user with access to the network between CredHub and its MySQL database may eavesdrop on database connections and thereby gain unauthorized access to CredHub and other components.

Affected Cloud Foundry Products and Versions

Severity is high unless otherwise noted.

  • CF Deployment
    • All versions prior to v12.29.0
  • CredHub
    • All versions prior to 2.5.10

Mitigation

Users of affected products are strongly encouraged to follow the mitigations below.

The Cloud Foundry project recommends upgrading the following releases:

  • CF Deployment
    • Upgrade all versions to v12.29.0 or greater
  • CredHub
    • Upgrade all versions to 2.5.10 or greater
