Description

It was discovered that zlib, vendored in klibc, incorrectly handled pointer arithmetic. An attacker could use this issue to cause klibc to crash or to possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2016-9840, CVE-2016-9841) Danilo Ramos discovered that zlib, vendored in klibc, incorrectly handled memory when performing certain deflating operations. An attacker could use this issue to cause klibc to crash or to possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2018-25032) Evgeny Legerov discovered that zlib, vendored in klibc, incorrectly handled memory when performing certain inflate operations. An attacker could use this issue to cause klibc to crash or to possibly execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2022-37434) Update Instructions: Run `sudo pro fix USN-6736-1` to fix the vulnerability. The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package versions: klibc-utils – 2.0.4-8ubuntu1.16.04.4+esm2 libklibc – 2.0.4-8ubuntu1.16.04.4+esm2 libklibc-dev – 2.0.4-8ubuntu1.16.04.4+esm2 Available with Ubuntu Pro (Infra-only): https://ubuntu.com/pro

Mitigation

Users of affected products are strongly encouraged to follow the mitigations below.

The Cloud Foundry project recommends upgrading the following releases:

  • Jammy Stemcells
    • Upgrade 1.x versions to 1.439 or greater
    • All other stemcells should be upgraded to the latest version available on bosh.io.
  • CF Deployment
    • Upgrade all versions to 30.0.0 or greater and upgrade Jammy Stemcells to 1.439 or greater
